Thanks to those of you who signed up to participate already. If you haven't signed up yet, there's still time! It's easy:

  • Go to HealthiestState.org
  • Click on the red "Log-in or join" button.
  • Register as an "Individual Champion" using your email address and password.
  • Scroll down the list of Participating Schools and check the box next to Green Lake Elementary so that your family's miles are added to the school's total.

Download a flyer with all the information.

The top two schools will earn $5000 cash prizes. In addition, our local Whole Foods Market - Roosevelt has joined the Healthiest State in the Nation campaign to highlight the nutritional aspects of a healthy lifestyle. If you attend any of the great events scheduled by Whole Foods - Roosevelt during the month of October (download the October events newsletter), you are eligible to win a kid's party for twelve and may help Green Lake obtain a 5% Community Support Day at the Roosevelt store.

Chess Club starts October 5th

Chess club provides students an opportunity to learn and play chess. An instructor provides a weekly lesson and will work with them on their games. Children who are interested can join Green Lake’s team at tournaments throughout the area.

When: Fridays after school until 4:00, beginning Oct 5th, in the library.

Who: Chess club is open to students of all grades. Girls are especially encouraged to join. We will take up to 22 students (due to limited space, and parental supervision) on a first-come, first served basis, giving priority to returning chess club members. If parents can volunteer, we can take up to 35 students.

Cost: $60.00 - which pays for the Chess Mates instructor(s) for the entire year. Those eligible for free/reduced lunch are exempt from fee; please note this if applicable.

More Info: greenlakechess@hotmail.com
